Alpaca Fibre

Alpaca Fibre

The focus of our production is end products for wholesale and retail. Alpaca Time uses only meticulously sorted and graded North American alpaca fibre to make each of its consistently high-quality end products. The processing of all the products we produce is done only in Canada.

The Fibre of the Gods

Long ago, alpaca fibre was called The Fibre of the Gods and was reserved for royalty. Today it is available to anyone wishing clothing made from a superior fibre.

Alpacas are shorn, without harm, once a year. In Canada, the average fibre harvest is five to eight pounds.

Alpaca fibre is sometimes compared to cashmere and has the luster of silk, making it even more desirable. It has no lanolin and is naturally hypoallergenic. Most people who are sensitive to wool can wear alpaca comfortably.

Additional properties of alpaca

If you are looking for high quality, environmentally sound products made from a naturally renewable resource, alpaca fibre fits the bill. Many classically styled garments last for generations.

Alpaca doesn’t have everything though. It lacks fibre memory. That’s why we came up with the 80% alpaca/20% nylon blend we use in most of our products. Although nylon isn’t a natural fibre, it does the best job of adding the memory that alpaca needs, and at 20% it enhances the alpaca without taking away from all its amazing characteristics.
